Gail Elaine Highland, 77, passed away at Norwalk Nursing & Rehab Center, Norwalk, IA, November 30, 2018. She had resided in Des Moines, IA, her entire life prior to this.
Gail was born in Des Moines, January 27, 1941, to Leland ‘Ted’ & Dorothy Pauline (Soward) Dingman, Sr. She graduated from Lincoln High School, later marrying Donald D. Highland. She and Don went on many ‘adventures’ until he passed away in 1995. Gail was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Other interests that rounded out her time on earth were cats, gardening, Arkansas trips, the Iowa State Fair, and Christmas Light tours of Polk County.
Survivors include her three children, Jennifer Chiodo, Des Moines, Barry Highland & Michelle (Tony) Butter, Carlisle, IA; three grandchildren, Christopher Chiodo, Tianna (Arturo) Hernandez, Timothy Butters; six great grandchildren, Joven, Kinsley, Isabelle, Taylor, Mason, and Aiden; sister, Barbara Bell of Arkansas, numerous family members and friends.
Gail’s family is appreciative for the excellent care provided by Suncrest Hospice at her home, and at Norwalk Nursing & Rehab Center.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions go to the Animal Rescue League of Iowa or Salvation Army.
The family will greet friends from 5 to 8pm, Tuesday, December 4, 2018 at Dunn’s Chapel, 2121 Grand Avenue, Des Moines, IA 50312. A graveside service will be 10am, Wednesday, at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 7601 Fleur Drive, Des Moines, IA 50321.
